Geochemist / MRV Specialist
Geochemist / MRV Specialist
Start date target: February 2026
Mission / role summary: Lead the deployment of a robust MRV (Measurement, Reporting, Verification) carbon accounting protocol for the biomineralization process; support third-party certification (e.g. for carbon credits) and ensure the geochemical integrity of the system. Work closely with Julien (Head of Science) as a core technical function of the certification pathway.
Key Responsibilities
Design, implement, and validate MRV protocols adapted to Bloomineral’s biomineralization process (e.g. measurement of dissolved inorganic carbon, isotopic tracers, flux balances, uptake rates).
Develop sampling, monitoring, and analytical plans (lab and field) to capture carbon fluxes, process losses, uncertainty, and leak detection.
Interface with certification bodies / auditors; prepare documentation, data packages, audits, verifications.
Provide geochemical and organic chemistry insight to the process — e.g. equilibria, kinetics, speciation, precipitation, by-product formation, trace contaminants.
Work with the R&D / process teams to diagnose process deviations, mass balance anomalies, side reactions, scaling effects.
Establish quality assurance / quality control (QA/QC) protocols for analytical data, calibrations, standard materials, uncertainty propagation.
Collaborate with Julien (Head of Science) and other stakeholders to integrate MRV outcomes into the business / IP / carbon credit strategy.
Requirements / Profile
PhD, or strong postdoctoral / senior experience, in geochemistry, geochemistry / geochemistry-inspired environmental science, or a closely aligned field (e.g. environmental chemistry, isotope geochemistry).
Deep knowledge of aqueous geochemistry, carbonate systems, isotope geochemistry, speciation, kinetics.
Hands-on experience with analytical instrumentation (e.g. IC, ICP, TOC / TIC, mass spectrometry, isotopic analysis, spectrophotometry, titrations).
Prior experience in carbon cycle science, carbon accounting, greenhouse gas quantification, or MRV is highly desirable.
Understanding of uncertainty analysis, error propagation, statistical analysis of measurement data.
Ability to translate complex geochemical results into audit-grade data for third-party verification.
Excellent communication skills: ability to document protocols, present to auditors / external stakeholders, interface across teams.
Highly self-driven, hands-on, capable of working at pilot / field scale under non-ideal conditions.
