Mission / role summary: We are looking for a Marine Biologist with at least 3 years of research or professional experience (industry or PhD level), specialized in algae and/or coral systems, to join our growing R&D team. Based at the Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l’Environnement (LSCE) in Paris-Saclay, you will work closely with our Head of Science and interdisciplinary team to develop and optimize biological systems at the core of Bloomineral’s technology. This is a hands-on role, ideal for someone who enjoys experimental work, data-driven decision making, and contributing directly to a technology moving from lab to industry.
Key Responsibilities
Within the R&D team, you will contribute to:
Cultivation of marine macroalgae and/or coral-inspired biological systems
Optimization of physico-chemical culture conditions (pH, alkalinity, nutrients, light, temperature, etc.)
Seawater analysis, including pH, alkalinity, DIC, major and trace elements
Monitoring biological growth, health, and reproduction cycles
Design and improvement of experimental protocols and measurement tools
Data collection, processing, and interpretation to guide process optimization
Collaboration with geochemists and materials scientists on biomineralization workflows
Your work will directly influence the robustness, scalability, and performance of our biological systems.
Requirements / Profile
PhD or minimum 3 years of professional research experience in marine biology, algal biology, coral biology, or related fields
Strong hands-on experience with aquatic biological systems
Solid understanding of marine chemistry and experimental systems
Ability to work autonomously, with rigor and curiosity
Fluent in English (working language of the team)
Excellent communication skills: ability to document protocols, present to auditors / external stakeholders, interface across teams.
Highly self-driven, hands-on, capable of working at pilot / field scale under non-ideal conditions.
Nice to have:
Experience with coral resilience, calcification, or biomineralization
Familiarity with climate or carbon-cycle related research
French language skills
Experience in interdisciplinary or startup environments
